Various Photos

There was a request by Carol to add more photographs. Since I love to take pictures, (I do scrapbooking) I will be happy to oblige.

Christmas photo

Family photo, Christmas 2006

This is a photo of our immediate family taken Christmas eve 2006. Scott still has some hair. Shannon (age 13) is the one in purple and Erin (age 9) is in black. I am obviously the one in green.

The Big Group Shot

This is us with some of my extended family and friends. Front row from left is my nephew Andy (age 9), Erin, Shannon, and nephew Tommy (just before 18th birthday). Next row is me, my mother Jody, and my sister-in-law Becky. Last row is our friends Cathy and Fred, sister-in-law Sherry and brother Paul, Scott, then my brother David and my oldest nephew Danny who is 21.

Mary and Martha (M&M)

mary-and-martha.jpg This is my sister Mary (”The evil twin”) in blue and me, Martha, in the green. This was taken at her house in the Pittsburgh area. Now you know why she refers to me as “spare parts”! When Bush speaks against cloning I have to complain, ’cause I am Mother Nature’s version of a clone! Yes, we were named for the two sisters in the bible!

Shannon and the Chicken Butt.

Anyone who pays attention knows Shannon likes to say “Chicken Butt”. I am not sure it has a meaning. Anyway, her Aunt Mary interpreted this to mean she wanted a chicken butt. She has a few chickens and one had gotten attacked by a dog - and the pieces spread to around the yard, but the rear portion was preserved. So Mary froze the chicken butt - and brought to Shannon as a present. Cousin Joey even made a little basket to put it into. You can see how thrilled Shannon is with her thoughtful gift.

The Hair Cut

dscf3393-2rev-0.jpg dscf3390rev-0.jpg

In late January, Scott was in the hospital and was losing all his hair anyway because of his illness. He looked aweful. So he decided to shave the rest off. Neither of us knew what we were doing, but we decided to have fun in the progress (to keep from crying). So for a short time he became a Rooster. :) The caption for the one on the left is “What you going to do?” . The other one is “Rooster crowing”.

Scary!!!

Feb 22 - Scott has turned into a CHIA PET !!! Maybe a little fertilizer will help the hair grow back. “Cha - cha - Chia!”

wedding-1990.jpg

This is the picture of us on our Wedding day, June 11, 1990. We were both 26 years old at the time. The wedding was held outside - between thunderstorms. But it worked out just fine. Although our engagement was very short (3 months) we had been dating about 7 years - and more than ready to finalize our relationship.

This picture was taken in October, right after a stay in the ICU for a major infection. The bruises on his arms are the result of the doctors trying to get blood draws and blood cultures from arms that had no veins left.

St Mary’s City - March 25, 2007

March 25 is Scott’s birthday as well as Maryland Day. St Mary City is considered the birthplace of Maryland and one of the main places to celebrate Maryland Day. Scott has often wanted to celebrate his birthday in St Mary’s City and this year we did. We spent the night before celebrating the beginning of Spring at a friends house who lived nearby and then on Sunday went to St Mary’s City. Yes, Scott climbed those stairs and a long ramp without assistance. In the other picture he is doing what he does best, teaching and explaining to the girls. It felt good for all of us to do something relatively normal like be tourists enjoying the beautiful spring weather, even if we did have to take along a white board to communicate with him.

This picture was taken early March. The girls are dressed up as pirates for a girl scout event. Notice Scott is wearing his amplifier at that time - it still helped a little.

This is Erin at a local Mexican restaurant to celebrate her 10th birthday.

scott-in-april.jpg

This picture was taken mid-April. He is sitting at the computer working. Note his hair is starting to come back. I have been trying to take some pictures of him for the website. But many of the other pictures he looks like a deer caught in the headlights of an on-coming truck for some reason.

Queen Elizabeth II visits Goddard, NASA

On Tuesday, May 15 Queen Elizabeth II, visited NASA, Goddard in Greenbelt, Maryland where Scott works. Only employees (and security and the media) where allowed on site during the visit, but since Scott works there he went to see her. It was a lovely day and Scott and thousands of other employees waited to great her. Scott was not in the first row and could not see her directly, so he took his camera and held it over his head and started shooting pictures and some of them turned out quite good.

In the last photo she is walking with Mike Griffin, Administrator for all of NASA. Scott thought it looked like the Queen was about to deck Griffin, so he put this funny caption on it. “You beastly man. Trying to steal an old lady’s purse. You should be ashamed!”

The Car Accident

In case things had not gone wrong enough, on September 24, 2007 - Scott was in a car accident! Long story short - on the Parkway, he stopped, the person in front of him stopped, the person behind did not. The one in back not only hit him, but pushed Scott into the guy in front. Scott was the only one hurt - he had to go to the emergency room, but nothing horrible happened. And yes, he DID have his seatbelt on. His organs were apparently not damaged further than they were already (made the doctors nervous that he was juandiced!), and his hips were not damaged either. But he did get a nasty blow to the head, with ugly contusions and abrasions (medical terms for a “boo boo”) and the next day a nasty black eye(s) have shown up. (Anyone know why we would not see black eye until next day?)

A picture of Scott at 10 am the next morning.

Then we went to get stuff out of car and see damage. That piece in front of the car is the back of the car. Both front hood and rear hatch were crunched shut permanently, but no glass was broken. The airbag did NOT deploy, though. Rear brake light bulb filaments weren’t broken, so maybe the hit wasn’t so hard after all (or I took my foot off the brake right before?).

Here is Scott later in the day (around 4:30pm) with his eyes looking much worse. (his left eye is almost swollen shut). Even his right eye is now starting to blacken at his nose.

two-days-out.jpg

The picture on left was taken on Wednesday, two days after accident and the one on right was taken Thursday morning by Scott after he finally achieved those classic “raccoon eyes”.

It is a Halloween Zombie!!

The spooky picture on right was taken shortly was taken the weekend after Scott’s accident on Sept 24, 2007. However, he actually never looked this bad, there was something weird about the lighting. Some folks thought he should go to Washington DC and participate in the “Thriller” event (yes, the Michael Jackson song - folks dress up like zombies and dance to the song).

Speaking of Halloween

Girls on Halloween pictures0008-1rev-1.jpg dscf3754-1rev-0.jpg

On Halloween, Shannon wore her new Renissance Festival Garb and I made Erin this belly dancing outfit. They both had fun spinning around letting their dresses swirl out.

The Hull family,

The Hull family is a large extended family with four brothers (Scott’s dad and 3 brothers). Between them they have 9 kids (Scott is the oldest), and 13 grandchildren. They are very close - even when they live far away. Fortunately most of them live in Maryland. This photo was taken just before the first transplant at the end of August, 2006. Not everyone could make it but most did. The BBQ was to wish Scott and Marcus luck before the big surgery. Scott and I are on the stairs on side with his dad and step mom on the landing above us. Marcus and Kim are on the other side, with Marcus’ Mom and Dad above them. That is Shannon and Erin right in front.

The Hull family

I will tell you a secret. I fell in love with Scott’s family before I fell with Scott. There is a lot of love there, honesty, and hard work, and they genuinely love each other. His grandparents were wonderful people that were great inspiration to their family - and people who their family loved. Scott’s grandmother on this side would always say she wanted to “stick around to see how everything turned out”. I am kind of glad she did not live long enough to see what her oldest grandson is going through. But I do know she would be very proud of grandson Marcus who put his life on the line because he was willing to donate part liver to his cousin.
