    Hi All,
I have been tasked with “cleaning up” the website, so you will notice many old pages missing so it will easier to find stuff.

I am up for recommendation and comments.

“the light at the end of the tunnel” analogy: Yours analogy ends with “it’s an oncoming train”. At least you have suceeded in not getting a direct hit by that train, yet, but it has been very close in that tunnel. My analogy ends with the light being just a flashlight, and the batteries are dead by the time I get there. PLEASE stay alert and get doging that train!

I think the latest light turned out to be neither a train nor the exit. It was a lamp. It gave us hope and a smile to continue the journey.

    Hi Scott,

A beam of light is shining over the Hull house. I am so glad to hear that the hearing is getting better. Christmas was good for all. The New Year is going to be a lot better for you now.

My Christmas was a good one. Got the biggest surprise of them all when my nephew presented me with a Christmas present. He gave me a Diamond Bulova watch. Also, a beautiful pair of sapphire earrings. He said that an Angel from heaven sent them to me for taking such wonderful care of her up to the time that she had past away. My sister, may she rest in peace.

Well, I have retired now. But, back in Bldg 21, Room 255 as a contractor. I love it. Nothing really any different.

Scott, 2009 will be a great year for you. Your hearing is improving. Your health will get better and the old Scott will be back. It’s been a long road for you…………… now happiness follows.

    Happy New Year to you.

Congratulations! It is wonderful that your hearing is improving so quickly. There may be a lot of financial doom and gloom around at the moment, but I have a feeling that there will be many good things in 2009, I hope hearing again is just the start for you. We are settling into a lovely new (to us) house just outside the city, and enjoying our large family – Jo and Brand and the kids are living with us now, and as the new place is so good for entertaining we have had a lot of company. It is busy with 5-7 people in the house (Brand’s kids are only part time), but if you ever make it up this way, we have lots of room and you would be welcome to stay with us. I have a sudden urge to watch “Starlight Express” now…
    Love,

    Hi Scott and Martha,

First of all thank you so much Martha for you kind words. You are so right about saying THANK YOU. They are powerful words that mean a lot in the long run. People seem to take each other for granted……..until they aren’t here anymore. Second, Scott knows all that you have done for him. It shows. He is worth every bit of it too. He has expressed to me many times how great and good you have been to him . You two have a strong and beautiful bond between you. Cherish it forever.

Hope the hearing is better today. Each day will bring a little more. But, I was sorry to hear about the fluid on the stomach and the Hernia. What are we going to do with our little Scott. I will continue to pray, write and talk to him.

Semi-retirement is great. They are giving me a party on Thursday, Jan 14th, 2009 1-3pm. Just a social time with Desserts. Please come if you all can. Would love to see you all.

If Scott’s hearing had continued to improve at that initial velocity, he would be hearing like “DareDevil” in two weeks… I am very grateful for impovements he did make and still is making (if much slower). Did you see the forcast? 1 on Thur night, 0 on Friday. That IS the Farenheit temperature. High will be about 15 Farenheit. My feet are cold now and I get to sleep in a warm house and work in a heated-if-not-too-warm office, unlike Black & Shadow.

My condolances to you, Scott and the rest of NASA who read this site on the death of your friend, Terry. General rule of thumb, there is no such thing as a “good death”. The end of a life always sucks. Just sometimes, it is a little less painful for one party or another (in this case, Terry himself) and we try to find that hint of a silver linning somewhere to make it make it a tiny bit less painful for the remainder. Keep looking for something to smile about: I know you, Scott, you’ll find it.

    Hi Scott, Martha and Girls,

First of all, thank you Scott for being a part of my retirement social. When I turned around and saw you face………………….that is all I needed. Friends are a valuable instrument. You love then when they are here and you miss them when they are gone. NASA families are close and we feel the pain along with their family. Keep the memories in your mind. Life goes on with all those wonderful memories. Everyday I think of my sister that I just lost a few months back and remember all that we have been through together. Good times and bad. I laugh a lot but tears come a lot too. We are human I guess.

You looked so good to me at my retirement social. Healthy looking, full of life and excitement. My old time Scott was back. Remembering building 3. Never thought that things would turn out the way it has. But, the fluid will go down. Things will level off and you will have past another hump in the road.

You are the greatest and strongest man I have ever met. Your drive, your courage and your move forth attitude, I envy. Please Lord make me like this wonderful strong man. We love you Scott. Keep up the good work. God Bless you.

    Hi Scott, Martha, and Girls,

How are all of you doing. Haven’t heard anything from you in sometime now. Everything ok?
I was looking over the various pictures and remembering all that you have been through. I loved the picture of you with your Black eyes. The car accident. You were so cute. See memories. We laugh now but at the time it was not funny. By no means.

I leave on Monday, Feb 23, 2009 for Daytona Beach. No I am not going for biker week and yes I just missed the Daytona 500. I am going for the PM Challenge 2009 for NASA. Sixth year in a row. It’s fun and you really get to meet people and learn a lot. It’s a rewarding seminar. Of course, I am a session coordinator and will be working the registration desk. See there is work involved. I love it.

Well keep us updated. Need to hear from you.

Thoughts, prayers and love are out to all of you.

    Hi Scott,

Well I want to give you an update on my life. My new job is wonderful and going great. Same work as before but not as stressful.

Some bad news……..Beverly my oldest daughter…………the one you saw me with at my Social, was told by the doctor this morning that she has a tumor on her spine. We are meeting with a Doctor over at Bayview Spinal center at John Hopkins on Thursday to discuss what is next. Thank the Lord it is a small and slowing grow tumor and the Doctor says it’s cureable but will take time. All the problems I carry on my shoulders with my husband now I have this to deal with. But, I can do it. God created me to be the care giver so here I am to serve the sick and My God. I will keep you informed on her progress.

Now good news……….My son is getting married June 6th in PA. We are planning to be there to share in his happiness. Lisa is a real nice girl and she is good for my son. Of course, they have asked me to do the wedding cake. I will do it. I have made all of their Wedding Cakes including my own. So one more won’t hurt I guess.

Well, sounds like my Scott is doing fine these days. Please keep up the good work and health. I know what you mean about busy around GSFC. I have been busy too. Guess I better get back and do some more work now. Please keep updating us and I will do the same.

My thoughts and Prayers are with you.

do you by any chance still have some sauce and an old shoe? — maybe you will just have to get your own hot tub to continue your rehab. at home, or come visit me. Our found-on-side-of-the-road-on-trash-night-hot-tub is in service and is actually very wonderful. Ours does include two features not available on “in-Columbia” models, privacy and stars overhead on dark nights. In noticed that the model we obtained is not even available anymore, a very large simple octagon shape.
Enjoy your spring. Warmer weather and flowers very uplifting.

time for an update, please? How about pictures or descriptions of the daughtors dance and trumpet spring proformances? Are they better with sound? (I would not be too sure about elementry school band concerts) Do you now hear the spring birds? Did you miss them?
Did you do the Beltane thing? Are you going to try water skiing this summer?

See update. Martha will update kids, etc. Dance concert made much more sense with sound. They dedicated one dance to Donna Sunderdick. I can hear the birds, but can’t always recognize them. We have one that sounds just like one of our telephones ringing. Yes, I went to Beltaine, though it was very small, and a bit strange this year. And absolutely yes on water skiing. Three years break is long enough!

    Hi Scott and Family,

Of course, I am still reading. Got to kept up with my Scottie. It’s just that it’s my turn again to live in Johns Hopkins. We are there so much. As I told you earlier, my oldest daughter Beverly (the one in the picture with us at my retirement social) has three tumors in her spinal cord. She will have the first two removed in the middle of June and then they will go for the worst on (Cerival). Prayers are really needed for this one. But, like she has reminded me……..Mom look at Scott. Look what he has gone through. He did it not only once but twice and looks so good. Good Hospital and World renowed Doctors she can do it too. I will be keeping everyone informed using a Blog like Martha did for us. This has taken up so much of my time.

Also, I am still caring for my husband who has been losing strength in his arms and legs. He has had 7 mini stokes now (that we know of). I came into work this work and my middle daughter calls me to let me know that she is having surgery done on June 10th. A few years ago she had an emergency Hysto done. They have now found problems with her Ovaries and Tube. They are now going to removed those. Comes in three’s I hear. Well, this is the third thing. God created me to be a care giver. Here I am LORD.

Now on the good side of life. My son is getting Married on June 6th. Yes just before all the other things will take place. We had the doctors work around this. He is marrying a God sent angel from PA. She lives in Pittsburgh but is from Clarion, PA. On top of everything here…………we will be traveling with all the sick to PA on June 4th, 5th, 6th and returning home on the 7th. I will be doing the wedding cake so that means transporting it there. Fun Fun. As if I don’t have enough on my plate. But my nickname is Cakelady. I have made all my kids Wedding cakes so they asked me to do this one. I can’t say NO. Along with 230 Champagne glasses (sm plastic ones) filled with hugs and kisses as favors for the table. Box of 27 suckers wrapped and decorated for the kids attending, and last night I finished the flowers that go on the cakes (total 124). There are ten piece to this cake. I will send you a picture once it is put together.

Well as you see I have been pretty busy with all the above. I still work full time, clean house, cut grass, cook dinner, wash clothes and so on. I just decided to take the time to check this morning on my Scottie. I am so happy to hear all the good news on your side. It’s about time sweetheart. We need to go to Chevy’s for lunch one day and relax.

Lot to read I know. Makes up for not too many people checking in. Please take care and my thoughts and prayers are with you.

I am pleased to hear about your son & future daughtor-in-law. Good tiding are welcome. As a “new” Pittsburgh resident (only 20 years) I find the city & surrounding area very charming. Hi Scott, Martha and girls,

Summer is moving on and schools are out. Please enjoy your summer.

My Son’s wedding was hosted at the Clarion River and Spa Resort and it was beautiful. Weather was great. Got to see a Balded Eagle, lots of deers and a brown bear way up there in the hills. Beautiful country. I am ready to go back. The bride and groom are so happy. I really believe in my heart that they will have a long life together. They care for each other in such a special way.

Daughter #2 was operated on yesterday. Operation was suppose to last 1 1/2 hours. Took 4 hours. She was worst then we thought. Other then the pain she is doing well. Coming home on Friday.

Ok, daughter #1 is schedule for surgery at Johns Hopkins on July 23 @ 9:00 am. They will remove two of the tumors in the spinal cord. If time is alloted they will go for the third one. The worst one. All Eleven doctors made us feel so comfortable with the upcoming surgery. I really trust each and everyone of them. I will keep you all posted.

Water skiing. WOW. That is great. You please keep up the good work.

Scott, just in case I get busy and forget to tell you HAPPY FATHER’S DAY to one of the best dads around.

Keep praying and so will I.

    Hi Scott,

Got a few minutes to say Hi to my Buddy. Hope everything is continuing to get better for you. I pray everyday that the Lord takes good care of you and your family.

Well two down and 1 to go. Son and his Bride are back home in Pittsburgh. Still happy and caring for one another.

Daughter #2 is home and doing very well after surgery. Stitches come out on Friday. I have had my 8 yr grandson over my house since her surgery taking care of him. I love it. He is a good boy and a lot of fun. I know he gets bored at times, especially when I am at work and can’t play with him. He goes camping Friday night at Bowie Bay Sox after their game. Scouts night out. Then he will go home to his mommy. I will really miss the little guy. I love kids. That is why I had 5. Should have had 5 more. Maybe I would have more then 5 grandchildren then.

Husband has lost a little ground. Doesn’t feel good half of the time. Pains in the stomach all the time. Trouble with his Blood sugar. He sleeps a lot. What can I say. He doesn’t take care what happens in his health.

Daughter #1 is ready for the surgery. She is tired of the wait. She said with God, the wonderful doctors and especially the care and love from her mom she will be fine. I believe it too. I will not leave her side.

Well, Scott how about updating us on your health, fun and family. What are the plans for the summer. I know you and Martha will keep those girls busy all summer. Take a trip to Pittsburgh. It’s beautiful up there. Drive another 1 1/2 hours to Clarion and stay at the Clarington River Resort and Spa it is great. Canoeing, hiking, swimming, go karting, water splash. Out door things. Less then a 6 hour ride and it is beautiful.

Got to get off and do some work now. Government pays me to work not to sit here and write a novel. You take care of yourselve and your family and have lots of fun this summer. I am thinking and praying for you all.

    Love to all,

    Carol

    Well Scott and Martha,
Reading your comments since Dec 22 has been a highlight of my year. After all, the hearing was gone, the transplant was not successful and …what great news! I’m counting on you being at the cabin often to ski. Ann shares some of what goes on, but the impact of all your good news was much greater, coming from you. I am so thankful to hear of all the improvement and to picture you practically running through New York City! Congratulations to Shannon for figuring out that subway system. I don’t evenremember what a Baritone horn is, but I know that Erin was too little to carry it the last time I saw her. Hope each day is your happiest day. Alice

just read your new update. Thank you. You’re right, (even if it does gall me to admit that my brother-in-law is right), many of these problems would become a non-issue if more organs were available. Everyone make sure you sign your organ donor card and let your relatives know. However, we would prefer that you do not actually donate said organs at this time.

    Hi Scott,

Well while I have a minute to breath I want to say hi and hope the BLOG was still here. This is the only way I keep up with you and your family anymore.
Beverly had her surgery and she is progressing very very slow. Please read the BLOG http://cakelady448.wordpress.com for all the updates and pictures. She has been through it too just like you went through. I think yours was worst. But her isn’t a joy. You know she can’t walk, move her arms and hands. Sometimes the left side will react. No turning head, bend or anything. She just laid in bed or in a recliner. She is still in the hospital and as been since July 23. She was moved from Johns Hopkins to Good Samaritan Rehab center on Loch Raven Blvd. I drive 110 miles per day to care for her. The therapy is moving slow, she walks baby steps with the PT Instructor, she did make brownies in OT. Now remember they ae helping her in everything that she does. Doctor tell us it could take up to 3mos to 1 year or longer before she will be able to walk and then it might be with a cane, walker. Time will tell. I watch her everyday in therapy. Somedays she does so good and other hardly anything. People just don’t realize that a 3inch tumor removed from the inside of your spinal cord at the Cervical can cause so many problems. Believe it does. The Spinal cord controls everything in your body almost.

I hope you are doing ok Scott. Please keep in touch and let us know how you and the family are doing. My thoughts and prayer are still with you.

    Carol

If you haven’t seen it yet, be sure to check out the newest entry on the status page. Good news, and a new picture.

The water-skiing picture looks like lots of fun! It was great to see you all at Pennsic! Cann’t wait for next year!

given what you (and Martha, Marcus, Kim, and the respective kids) have been through, that picture is incredible. I saw that you got to hear as well as see the Medival Babaes this year.

I witnessed it!!! Way to go Scott. Chris said that your smile said it all!! Great picture. I knew if I rode along, I wouldn’t have been able to take as good of a picture. Dave will be glad to pull you along again next year!

Who took the picture? I assume Dave drove the boat. Thank you Dave.

WOW! What a GREAT picture ! and such a fitting way to CLOSE the chapter on “sick and no hope” and to OPEN the page of a new book called “the REST of your LIFE!”‘ I am looking forward to reading those chapters as well… hugs, the barry gang

FYI, the weather yesterday was rotten, so I spent all day finally cleaning up and organizing my pictures of the Mediaeval Baebes. You can now see three years worth of them (and some other stuff) at http://www.flickr.com/photos/30683917@N07/sets/72157622352737530/

    Hi Scott,

Just had to yell at you for a few minutes. You look so good on those water skis. Keep it up baby. You really have come a long way. I went back over the BLOG and read all the comments and progress once again. You are amazing. I pray everyday that the Lord will bring my daughter back too. I know it is a long road with a lot of sharp turns. Even detours along the way. She will get there too. Time will tell. Still no movements that she feels in the right and left arms from elbows to finger tips. Lot of damage done in those areas of the Spinal cord. Long time in healing. Next week will be three months since surgery. Time does fly.
Your new hair cut is very becoming to a you. How is the hearing? Guess I will have to call you on the phone.
Well wish I could write more but got a lot of things to get done. I leave work and go over to take care of Beverly. Meal to prepare, clothes to wash, house to clean, trash to dump and so on. Guess tonight I will try to get her hair washed. I love it.
Please stay well and you will always be in my heart, my prayers and my thoughts. Kiss Martha and girls for me too.

    Carol
