Scott
Except having low energy and not much strength, I am reasonably healthy going into this surgery. Fatigue and muscle loss are just a few among the long list of symptoms and side effects, but we’ve come up with various ways to deal with most of them. To my knowledge all of these effects will go away, to get replaced by a whole new set of complications.
I am an engineer, and enjoy woodworking almost as much as accumulating tools. I have also participated in historical recreation in one form or another for more than 20 years, generally going by the name Gallen. We’ve been attending the annual Pennsic War near Pittsburgh for almost 20 years, and I have alot of fun making things for that event that are both useful and functional. Projects so far have included a trailer, a kitchen sink for the camp (periodically improved by the Dalhraidian Corps of Engineers), and a 14 foot diameter yurt (a nomad-style tent).
Fortunately, for most of the larger projects I get assistance from my daughters. I think it’s important for girls to know at least the basics of building and fixing things, and just generally using tools. Someday (all too soon) I hope to also teach them basic car maintenance as well. Some of my favorite times have been spent working on projects with my wife and daughters. My immediate and extended family have been so important through this whole process.
This picture was taken July 2006 - less than two months before his surgery. Yes, that is Scott skiing. :) He only skied for 6 minutes - but it took him 4 days to recover - but he says it was worth it!!!

Scott and family,
We have been following everything. I have a signed card for you but don’t have an address
to send it. The astronomy club members signed it.
Let me know some address to send it to.
Hope you are getting better day by day.
